A Checklist for Planning in English Language Arts (.pdf)

There is no one template that is mandatory for planning. Short range plans should contain the following critically important components:

  • Specific Outcomes
  • Essential Questions or Enduring Understandings
  • Final Assessment  (with rubrics, student checklists, exemplars)
  • Instructional Procedures (activating prior knowledge, opportunities to build background knowledge, practice and develop skills and strategies)
  • Resources
  • Timeline
  • Differentiation Notes
  • ICT Outcomes
  • Connections to Other Subjects or Employability Skills (optional)
