There are no pre-requisites for ePD courses. Participants can enter the courses at the point that best suits their needs and prior knowledge. Participants will receive a certificate of completion after each course.

Web 2.0 Tools (6 modules or weeks) 1 hour per module or week
Web 2.0 Tools is for teachers wanting to discover new and exciting Web 2.0 applications that can help extend personalization of learning in the classroom. Participants will learn about the basics of creating a safe online class environment, how to appropriately prepare for using Web 2.0 Tools in the classroom, how to evaluate Web 2.0 for classroom use as well as explore many Web 2.0 Tools for Teaching and Learning. Examples of classroom use of Web 2.0, references to research of Web 2.0 tools in the classroom and various Web 2.0 tools are made accessible to participants throughout the course to assist development of innovative ideas, personalized learning and student engagement.

Teaching and Learning Online (TALO) (2-4 hrs/week for 5 weeks)
Teaching and Learning Online (TALO) is our introductory course that offers participants the experience of learning in a facilitated distributed learning environment. The course combines the learner's experience with an overview of foundational pedagogical implications, best practices, challenges, and opportunities for digital learning. This course is an introduction to the realities of education in a technological age. Participants examine the themes of connection, collaboration, creation, and reflection within the context of blended and online distributed learning environments. Discover strategies and introductory steps to engage and support your online learners.

Building Distributed Learning Environments (BDLE) (2-4 hrs/week for 6 weeks)
Building Distributed Learning Environments (BDLE) is for educators who already have an understanding of the pedagogical implications and strategies around distributed, blended, and online learning environments, who would like to take the next steps in their learning. In this course you will have the opportunity to manipulate the tools in D2L and add structures in your own shell to support your classroom and/or a professional community of practice. The focus is on organizing course tools, effective use of communication tools, strategies for engaging learners, and using online management tools.

E-Designer (2-4 hrs/week for 6 weeks)
e-Designer is for teachers who already have experience using the tools in D2L, who want to learn how to create an engaging, interactive online module or project that incorporates aspects of instructional design, content, and e-pedagogy. Participants will learn about the basics of online instructional design (i.e. scaffolding modules, organizational strategies etc.), how to encourage effective online communities of learning, and effective online assessment techniques while they build a 2-3 week online project or module that they can apply directly to their teaching practice. Participants will also have the opportunity to use page templates in DreamWeaver. Examples of online projects, references to research in online education and other online tools are made accessible to participants throughout the course to assist development of innovative ideas, personalized learning and student engagement.

E-Valuator (2-4 hrs/week for 7 weeks)
e-Valuator is for teachers who wish to expand their expertise in creating effective assessment of and for learning in the context of online, blended, and distributed learning environments. Participants come prepared with a course or a D2L shell in which they can use to build quizzes, assignments and self-assessment activities. Online and distributed pedagogical knowledge, skills, and strategies for assessment will be explored in-depth. During the course, teachers will design a student assignment that can integrate the use of assessment tools such as: quizzes, self-assessment, journal, ePortfolio, rubrics, etc.

Teaching Sexual Health (4 hours total over 3 weeks)
This course consists of three weeks (there will be one offering that is two weeks) of access to the online content. It should take around 4 hours to work through the content and you have the flexibility to work at your own pace in an online shell through the Calgary Board of Education's distributed learning tool, D2L. The option of a face-to-face meeting near the end of the course will be discussed and may be arranged, depending on the needs of the participants. There may also be a scheduled webinar (30 minutes to one hour in duration, optional participation) to allow participants to directly interact with the instructors and one another. This course is offered in conjunction with practitioners from the Calgary Health Region and is only available to CBE teachers.
