Replacing Projector Bulbs

Bulbs for projectors, (ceiling mounted, wall mounted, and standalone), used with or without a SMART board, have a limited lifespan.

The rated lifespan of a projector bulb, can be as low as 2000 hours (5 hours a day for 400 days). That means the project bulb will likely need to be replaced in 2 or 3 years.
There is no guarantee that the bulb will last 2000 hours.

Improper handling of the bulb during installation, frequent bumping of the projector and improper shut down technique could result in premature bulb failure… (or it could just be bad luck.)

To prolong bulb life, shut down the projector properly when not in use.

Most projectors have and energy saving mode. For assistance with the energy saving settings, contact your school based technology support.

If you suspect a projector bulb problem:

  1. Call the CBE Helpdesk @ 403-817-7777 or email helpdesk@cbe.ab.ca.  Please include your name, school, room number, and a brief description of the problem you are experiencing.

Alternatively, you can contact your schools Technology Support (TS) Specialist during their regularly scheduled visit.

  2. The issue must be narrowed down to the lamp.  Your TS Specialist has resources available to assist in confirming the lamp is the cause of the issue including a knowledgebase, wiki, Support Analyst, and other 3rd level support resources.

  3. Once confirmed, the TS Specialist will have the school fill out an S18 that includes:

    HEAT Ticket Number
    School Name
    Budget Code / Alias
    Projector Type
    Projector Serial Number (If visible)
    SMART Board Serial Number

  1. Fax the S18 to the CBE HelpDesk at 403-294-8431.  Please do not fax the S18 to Purchasing nor directly to Electronics. you can also scan to email the S18 to helpdesk@cbe.ab.ca

  2. The CBE Helpdesk will attach the S18 to the HEAT ticket and forward it along to CBE Electronics.

  3. CBE Electronics should visit your school within 2 – 4 business days to replace the lamp.

  4. If the job is not completed within 2-4 business days, reconnect with the Help Desk referencing the HEAT ticket.
