Project Overview:

Alberta Education and The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) have partnered in the “Integrated Middle Years Learning Framework: Personalized, Integrated, Authentic and Engaging” project to engage teachers with the draft Career and Technology Foundations Junior High-Middle Years Curriculum in pilot schools to leverage change in teacher practice. 

The focus of this project is to work with CTS teachers, as a starting point, to explore professional development opportunities in areas of current best practice in pedagogy to meet the needs of middle year students through an integrated learning model. This project focuses on meeting the needs of middle year students through blended learning, recognizing student diversity and aligning professional development. 

Research Question(s)

Goal of research: To explore how each school has designed (is designing) a student-centered framework for learning that is personalized, integrated, relevant, and engaging, using draft Career and Technology Foundations Junior High-Middle Years Curriculum as the point of leverage. 

Secondary questions:

  • What lessons can be learned from the pilot schools in the Middle YearsIntegration Project in order to inform future directions in the movement towards integrated practice?
  • What supports do schools need to move towards integrated instruction?
  • What are the greatest challenges, schools face in moving towards integrated instruction?

 

Research Overview/Methods

This case study research process is designed to be highly responsive to the individual schools needs and context.  The research is focused on incorporating the program development components into the research process and is centering on a content analysis of each schools Gap Analysis. 

 

Findings:
This project is a 3 year accountability to Alberta Learning. The following deliverables will be met in the process of this study.
