Our Integrated Media System (IMS) at the Calgary Board of Education is Symphony, which consists of two components:

  1. Front end web based access to the resources (e-Library)
  2. Backend Learning Commons management system (Symphony Workflows)

e-Library

e-Library is an online catalogue for all school libraries with information on books, DVDs and other resources that are available to borrow, and includes:

  • professional resources collection at the ILC
  • new resources listing that is updated every few months, and broken down by English and French languages, and by grade level
  • visual search by common categories
  • link to Calgary Public Library
  • viewing in multiple languages

Symphony Workflows

Symphony Workflows is the backend library management tool used in school Learning Commons that allows Learning Commons staff to:

  • circulating Learning Commons resources
  • adding resources to the catalogue
  • checking on an item's status
  • checking a user's status
  • maintaining an inventory of the collection
  • Kidpower can also be accessed via Symphony workflows. Once logged in, Kidpower allows students to check in and check out their own school resources

Accessing Symphony Workflows

Symphony Workflows can be accessed via a "Workflow" icon on your desktop.
