Learning Commons Support Services

The Educational Resources and Learning Systems (ERLS) team is responsible for delivering responsive and valued services to staff and students around the infrastructure management of resources and learning-related systems.

This includes contributing to the leadership and services around:

• Learning Management System Support, including Desire2learn (D2L), ePortfolio and LOR
• Learning Commons Support, including Resource Description, Media System Support (Media 4Learning, e-Library and Symphony Workflows) Processing

Learning Commons Support is committed to providing:

• Equity of access to quality learning resources and information technologies in support of life-long learning
• Leadership and support to resource based learning and teaching in schools
• Support in the areas of school learning commons organization and management, collection development and weeding, resource description and classification, Integrated Media System support, learning commons resources and media licenses

Resource Description

We provide resource desription (cataloguing) of English, French, Spanish and German learning resources for all Calgary Board of Education school learning commons, the Innovation & Learning Commons, Chinook Learning Services, M4L, and specialized collections.

We provide support for school Library/ Learning Commons staff on collection development and weeding.

Media System Support

e-Library & Symphony Workflows
We provide Integrated Media System (IMS) implementation, training and system support for e-Library & Symphony Workflows. For more information, click here.

Media 4Learning (M4L)
M4L is a collection of educational resources in multiple languages available to all Calgary Board of Education staff to borrow year round. This collection consists of streaming media, DVDs and other educational resources for use in the classroom.

Processing

We provide products for Calgary Board of Education school library/ learning commons (spine labels, barcodes, etc.).

We provide receiving, processing and shipping of all learning resources ordered through Calgary Board of Education purchasing and for new school libraries/ learning commons.
